Our Society

The Model Business Competition Society (MBCS) at the University of Macau is an elite and dynamic student organization. Though small in size, our core team is deeply passionate about business and career development. With support from alumnus Mr. Lam, university leadership, and professors, MBCS continues to grow and aspires to benchmark itself against top business societies worldwide—aiming to become the leading student business organization in Macau.

Centered around case competitions, MBCS also extends its focus to postgraduate applications and career planning, helping members build a strong bridge between academics and future careers.

The diagram above shows the society’s training “blueprint,” with activities divided into two main modules: General Learning (regular activities) and Professional Advancement (Accelerator Program). These are structured into five levels based on university course codes: 1001, 1002, 2001, 3001, and 4001.

New members start with general activities to build basic business knowledge and explore career directions. They can then participate in on-campus case competitions and apply to join one of the Accelerator Program’s professional divisions for focused training and career-focused salons. The five divisions are: Quant & Data, Investment, Accounting, Consulting, and FMCG.

Another diagram presents the development pathway from a member's perspective in the form of a pyramid.

Since our founding in December 2023, we have organized various team-building events, career talks, and sharing sessions on case competitions and postgraduate applications. We’ve successfully helped students form teams and achieve strong results in competitions. Even before our official launch, our case competition salons were well received.

Our most influential event is the “MBCS Case Month: CFA Challenge x UM-MBCS Campus Selection.” Each lecture in the series drew over 150 attendees, with more than 300 participants ranging from first-year undergraduates to PhD students. The event was supported by three Associate Deans from the Faculty of Business, several professors, government officials, and corporate representatives, and was widely praised by students.

Mission & Vision

To help students better understand business careers, MBCS offers case competition training, networking events, company visits, and professor dialogues to enhance both career awareness and practical skills.

Our activities are interdisciplinary, with the core flagship “Accelerator Program” covering investment, quant, accounting, marketing, and consulting. It combines salons, hands-on training, and case practice to support members in clarifying their postgraduate and career paths.

Unlike typical student societies, we focus on case competitions and real-world business experience, avoiding ineffective talks and unnecessary entertainment. Our goal is to provide high-value growth opportunities for elite members.

At the same time, members build strong networks with outstanding peers, alumni, and industry professionals—laying a solid foundation for their future.

The society was not founded out of a desire for titles, but out of a belief in pragmatism.

At the University of Macau, many students focus on postgraduate applications. However, the true purpose of further study is to enhance future career competitiveness. Therefore, starting with the end in mind, career development should be a key part of university life.

As universities often emphasize academics, we aim to complement that with practical experience—bridging classroom learning with career preparation. Case competitions and internships are the best forms of real-world practice.

We founded MBCS after facing challenges in case competitions and realizing that systematic training and a reliable team are key to success.

We believe case competitions are more than just hands-on experience—they are powerful platforms for exploring careers, developing skills, and building proof of capability. Skill-building and realistic simulations are strong accelerators of career development.

Compared to mature societies in the U.S. and mainland China, student organizations in Macau still have room to grow. Drawing on our experience in managing a high school STEM society and participating in competitions, we created MBCS to integrate resources and build a platform that helps students engage in business competitions efficiently, explore career paths early, acquire practical skills, and accelerate their journey in business education.
